Fingerprint scanner

SaverIT can use one or more fingerprints to identify an employee. By using multiple fingerprints, the fingerprint scanner works better and faster. If a finger is injured, another finger can be used. In practice, it also appears that the employee no longer knows from which finger a print was scanned. Then it is faster if the scanner can link multiple fingerprints to one and the same employee.

In addition, an RFID can be used. An RFID can be placed on a separate chip as a key ring, but also on a card, for example.

Saver applies the technology template for the fingerprint scanner in accordance with ISO19794-2.

Method of fingerprinting

In order to identify the employees, the fingerprints are first learned or scanned in the same SaverIT tablet in which they later clock in and out. The Tablet forwards the information to the SaverIT Administration Portal as soon as the Tablet has an internet connection. The scanner software converts the scan into a so-called finger template. This binary code is linked to the specific employee in the SaverIT administration portal. When the employee places their finger on the fingerprint scanner to clock in, the tablet creates a template of the fingerprint again. SaverIT then compares the fingerprint template in real time with the templates in the SaverIT Administration Portal. If the templates match, the employee is clocked in.

The fingerprint scanner does not store a copy of the fingerprint, but generates a code based on the scanned finger. A new scan produces the same code and the fingerprint is recognized. It is not possible to translate the code back to a copy of the fingerprint. This means that the printout is not actually stored and can be compared to an RFID chip. Instead of the code being stored in the RFID chip, it is now actually stored in the finger.

Advantages of fingerprint scanner

The major advantages of the fingerprint scanner are:

  • fingerprints are a simple, fast and secure method for employee identification and registration;
  • fraud is not possible: employee fingerprints are unique;
  • SaverIT’s fingerprint technology complies with GDPR privacy legislation: the templates cannot be traced back to individual fingerprints;
  • Employees do not lose their fingerprints like an RFID chip: you always have your fingers at hand!
